Yellow Wood-Sorrel

I'm actually 95% certain this is not a wood-sorrel but that's the closest match I can find in my field guide. Help with an ID would be appreciated. The blossom is about 5/8" dia. The yellows are slightly blown out but I like the composition enough to share it. Thanks for looking.

Bruce, this is an evergreen violet (Viola sempervirens). Interesting comp with the flower sticking through a fern. The key to my ID is actually the roundish leaf under the flower.

Bruce:
Nice comp with the diagonal fern leaves providing an interesting bg. The yellow is very well set off by the green. Not sure about the stem in the RUC though.

David-Thanks for the ID. I've just recently got into identifying wild flowers and my NWF field guide I've got seems difficult to use sometimes. In the spirit of full disclosure I actually placed the fern behind the flower to hide some busy looking twigs.

Gary-I hear you about the stem in URC. If I get ambitious I might spend some time cleaning it up, but I like the diagonal element it gives to the composition.

Beautiful sharp detail and of course that rich yellow is captivating. Your composition and everything hits me just right.

Love the composition and the rich color in this Bruce. Also the band of shadow running across the bloom. The yellows look fine on my MacBook. A striking image for my tastes.

Wonderfully seen, composed and taken Bruce. The lines and splash of color do it for me.
