This is my 1st posting in the flora gallery section. My last posting of helebore was in the landscape gallery, but I thought I'd try something new and see what you all think. I love the world of fine art nature photography, and feel as though I've done an admirable job here. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

The light, tonal range, and comp is wonderful Mitch. Unique take on these kind of plants IMO.

Hi Mitch, welcome to Flora. I enjoy the flow and swirling curves The upper right and lower left corners where the leaves plunge into the stems make them especially attractive, almost alive with motion. Also pleasing is the perfect condition of the leaves...free from blemishes and snail bite marks. I scan the creamy smoothness and like what you have shared. Love to see the comparable color version. Well done.

Beautiful image Mitch. I particularly like the conversion and the gradients it emphasizes throughout the image. I also think those strengthen the impact of the shallow S curves in the line of the leaves. I like the image very much.

In thinking about anything I might improve or change in the image, I had two thoughts. It would be nice to see a complete plant and ideally for my tastes the center of the plant on the viewer's left would be nearer the lower left power point in the image. These aren't criticisms just things I think I might like. This is a superb image exactly as posted.

So welcome to the gallery. I hope to see a lot more of your posts.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for your kind words on this image. I truly feel this is a very sellable image as is. As far as getting the entire plant, it's very difficult. Should I decide to do that, I would have very dark, deep black empty spaces on the perimeter. It just does not look good, and leaves a void in the overall image. I like filling the frame in it's entirity, and work with the patterns and design from edge to edge on all four sides. Getting a good comp with these plants is very challenging and in some cases tough on the back!! Thanks again for your input. This is truly what I enjoy about this site!!

Very nice image Mitch. If it looks good on my work monitor under poor lighting it will look awsome when I take a look at home. Love the wide range of tones you've captured here. :toast:

Nice b/w conversion Mitch. The picture evokes an emotion which is what I have found and strive for when I go out to shoot macro's. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful image. My bias would be a subtle brighter brighter shade and perhaps a tad more contrast.

Curves, lines, shadow and light all combine well in my opinion Mitch. Very well composed and shown.
