Sunset on Maui taken in 1985 with my Mamiya 645 and Ektachorme Professional 200 slide film. Scanned on a flatbed scanner.

As always, thanks for looking and for any comments or critiques.

Hi Eva ! I like the colors, the cloud formation and the overall mood of the scene. Composition wise I would add some more space at the bottom. If I have a whole tree on" foreground", I would keep a bit more space under so that it looks more stable. Plus the palm leaves jutting out to the frame on the right upper corner doesn't add to the composition IMO. I think the picture has more noise as well and I would reduce it. Just my opinion though.

Thanks Santosh. The "noise" is actually film grain. I did noise reduce but left the general grain appearance. As far as the palm leaves on the right edge, here is a version with them cropped out. With regard to the bottom portion, I would need to revisit my old slides to see if I have a version with more ground. Thanks very much for your in depth critique.

Beautiful sunset Eva. The clouds and colors are wonderful. I remember almost buying a Mamiya 645, but at the time I already had a pretty good investment in canon lenes so stayed with the 35mm. Always wished I would have however. Very pretty picture. Kind of postcard like.

Hawaii makes for some killer sunrises and sunsets, and this is a perfect example. Very dramatic moment that you have captured on film Eva. Cropped version looks great.

Some amazing colors. I don't find the partial palms distracting, to me they're "atmospheric background", not the main subject. I also like the window lights in the dark midground. They add a nice human element.

Incredible sky, Eva. I like the hint of reflected color on the water and the repeating colors in the lights along the shore. I find the fronds in the ulc a little distracting but the composition, over all, is very nice.

Sorry. Just scrolled down and caught your repost. So please ignore comment on palm fronds.

Lovely use of the strong silhouettes against the fiery sky to good effect.

Beautiful image Eva. This is a classic example of the Hawaiian sunset with the coconut trees and the sunset light. I could see trying a pano crop just below the upper tree which would exclude the open sky in the ULC.

Nice one Eva! It would probably also look cool as a pano cropped just below the top intruding tree on the right... :toast:
