Savannah Sparrow

I took advantage of last Saturday's nice weather to spend a couple of hours on the local prairie preserve. This Savannah really liked the perches set up for a Meadowlark study (hopefully I'll get the Meadowlark soon).

1D MkIV, 500mm f4 + 1.4TC, Black Widow on Gitzo legs, f9, 1/800, iso 640, Av mode with +1.0 compensation, cropped from 16 to 6.5MP, taken on April 23rd at 7:36 am. Normal processing in CS4.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

nice singing pose and comp, Dennis. the top of the head seems slightly less sharp than the rest of the bird (maybe a dof effect), so maybe a little more selective sharpening there.

Dennis,
great singing pose of this sparrow and nice colors and comp. I agree with Brian about a bit more sharpening on the head. :toast:

Just looked at the large Dennis and agree a bit more sharpening on the head easily sorted, but a fine image and great pose

That singing pose is great, Dennis. Nice diagonal perch and clean background. The head and bill look a bit soft in the larger post.

Excellent singing pose and great light, Dennis. I also like your comp and exposure techs very much. Agree with Brian and Monica that the focus seems to be on the wings.

I saw them around here last year and hope to get some images this year.

Good one, Dennis. Lots of feather detail, although maybe needs a bit of sharpening on the head as has been mentioned. Love the singing pose. Can almost hear the song.

Great pose and open calling beak. I agree about the focus on the face unfortunately but I still really like the image
