Well, this is a wintery shot. But it's from the beginning of the end of fall 2009. The first real snow, and temps into the low teens. The first time I ventured into an environment and conditions like this. The lake is almost frozen over, and a little mist was rising up off the surface as we waited for first light. Large version included. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Beautiful!!
For my tastes, the horizon is a little too centered.
Still a beauty.

That is a beautiful shot, Chris. It has that crisp cool early morning atmosphere to it which is very appealing. The light on the peaks makes the shot.

Nice, Chris--i can definitely feel the cool air from it! Id like to see a bit more contrast in the trees, otherwise looks good to me.

Hi Chris,

I have no idea why this hasn't gotten more comments. I can't say that I am in love with the foreground, although the inverted u shape of the grass is powerful. Your processing on the peaks and the sky is spectacular and I might add just a bit more contrast to the trees on the left side. The scene has straight forward documentary feel to it, which is a good thing. It is just like being there!

Very pretty scene. Sort of wonder if a warmer white balance might be useful here.

Thanks, guys. Here's a contrast increase to the midground trees, and some added warmth. White, Balance was captured at 7000.

Thanks,
Chris

Those are some dramatic peaks. I like the composition here--it's simple but also very effective. I think the colors appear a little muted. I think you have some latitude to boost the saturation and / or contrast without overcooking the image. Otherwise this is a beautiful and tranquil scene and I want to linger here for a while.

EDIT: I just saw the repost and it is much stronger.

Some of the coldest nights of my life were spent in that basin while backcountry skiing. I think this captures it very well. Beautiful scene.

As Stan suggested, a little more contrast in the trees would help. Overall a nice shot with some nice light on the rugged peaks.

A classic Sierra scene, I like it a lot. The delicate light on the peaks is really nice, and the comp works.
