LaCreek National Wildlife Refuge is a fabulous birding location in South Dakota. It's also about a 5 1/2 hour drive from my edge of the state, so I've only been there a few times. I hadn't been there in the spring when the Trumpeter Swans are usually around, so made a trip out there this weekend. Really fun trip for these guys.

Canon 50D, 400 5.6L, 1/3200, f6.3.

The image really provides a sense of action here, Terry. Pose of the bird, lovely exposure and splashing water all very attractive. :toast:

A nice composition with the layered background setting and swan taking off, way to go.

Nice exposure and take off posture Terry and I like the energy in the shot and your composition. LaCreek sounds like my kind'a place.

Glad you had a successful trip! Lacreek is one of my favorite places too but I don't get to spend much time there. That may change this summer!
