Wetlands Iris

I was out shooting birds at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach Florida earlier this week and came across these very tall Iris growing in water. This was a first for me. I didn't realize until then that they could grow in water and that they would also grow to a height of 4 - 5 feet. It was a couple hours after sunrise on a bright blue sky day when I took this one. The flower was in direct sun, which seemed to work with the blue sky reflecting off the water in the background.

Handheld, 400mm, f/5.6, 1/500 sec, ISO 400 (I had been shooting birds and forgot to lower my ISO)

Richard: Excellent light and BG management and a wonderful find. I go back and forth regarding the inclusion of the leaf. It does provide a touch of context but I think the image would be a bit stronger without it. >=))>

Well done, Richard; good color and detail. The whites are under control and the water drops are a plus. I don't think the grass stem is necessary to the composition, but it does provide a leading line to the flower.

FYI, a variety of irises can grow in water.

Great color and you handled the light really well. I like the diagonal line in your comp and the raindrops are a very nice addition.

I like the color palette in this one a lot Richard. Also the diagonal in the comp. Like Bill, I've been considering the leaf. I think I like it in the image but would prefer it to be sharper. Certainly no big deal though. Very interesting and appealing iris image.

Wonderful comp, and a beautiful color palette! Beautiful subject and the droplets are a nice addition. I agree with Bill, that this might be stronger w/o the leaf, but it's a great shot regardless.

The water drops are a nice added touch and the blue sky colors in the water make a very pleasing background. Neat shot Richard.
