Magic Mushroom

I rarely point my lens to the ground and even less so for flora pictures, but who could resist this subject? I was completely mesmerized when I saw this one. It a mushroom of Entoloma genus from New Zealand. Apparently they are pretty common in some wet forests and there are several color variations.

Canon EOS 40D + Canon EF 50mm f1.8 1/50s ISO500 handheld (once again I didn't have a tripod while bushwhacking..)

That's an amazing blue color for a mushroom. I also like your dof choice, with the soft framing in the bottom of the image.

Great find. Like the comp. Only suggestion would be to darken the lower FG to match the luminosity of the BG and possibly crop up to the top of the black in the LLC.

Great job isolating the subject Andrius. My only suggestion would be to crop up from the bottom to eliminate that black corner as Bob has already suggested.

Beautiful image, Andrius, of a fascinating plant - I like how you've caught it amongst bits of undergrowth seen sharply through the fg blur.

I have also greatly enjoyed your other images ( especially of the kea ) from New Zealand, which I have visited a few times.

Thanks you for all your kind comments and suggestions. That dark blob does look distracting when you mentioned it!

I have never seen a blue mushroom and certainly not one as beautiful as this one is. Excellent pov and dof.

What a fascinating subject. The blue really stands out from the background. Overall, the way you rendered this image brings the blue mushroom to life.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this image was this video clip. I'm not sure what that says about me.

DUDE, that is the COOLEST mushroom ever!!! Man, I never find mushrooms like this :(

Also, I agree with cropping a little off the left side and the bottom. Very nice job.
