flower reflections

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted February 18, 2011153 views11 comments
This photo was taken after a brief rain shower. The drops on the iris leaf caught the reflections of the flowers behind.

Camera-Canon Rebel T1i. Shot with a 90mm macro lens at F/7.1 for 1/640 sec. at 400 ISO.

Very well done. I like the curved stem and DOF. :toast:

Carolyn: OK, even though you're new to NPN the optics doctor (that would be me) has to correct your terminology. These are actually refractions since you are looking through the drops which function as little lenses. Thus the image within them is upside down and backwards. Your penalty is to send me the RAW file and all rights  Great find and a terrific capture. Welcome to NPN. >=))>

Thanks Bill for the correction! I will change it on my web site to reflect (or refract?) the correct terminology.

Love the image, Carolyn. The mini-bouquets in the drops are incredibly sharp. Nicely done

These types of shots are so cool and this one is very cool! Did you take this knowing the refraction would happen or was it a happy surprise? Pretty color palette too.

Very well done. Good exposure. I would like to see the drops bigger so I can see the refractions better. Thanks for sharing and welcome to NPN.

In response to Pam, I was deliberately looking for these refractions. I had just read how to do this on Mike Moats blog and was looking to see what I could do after we had a rain shower. Fortunately the flowers, raindrops, and leaves all cooperated for this picture so I did not have to artifically set up anything. I just had to look for it.
