River Cedar

This photo was taken last September in the northern Adirondacks on the Salmon River. I didn’t previously process it for several reasons; the backlighting was a problem, the wind was blowing and the leaves weren’t in focus-but I still liked the tree.

So, after moving snow around today (14 more inches overnight) I reworked this with a watercolor filter, slight poster edges, some cloning and retouching, and a rendered light treatment. Well, it’s worth sharing for the amount of work I put into it. I’ve provided a larger version for those who want to see more details.

C&C always welcome; thanks for looking.

A very fine image and the processing really works.

Lovely image, maybe youcould have gone a bit further with the watercolour filter but certainly beats shovelling snow

You've handled the backlighting issues well and the filters have negated any softness due to motion in the leaves. I really like that the sharpness has been maintained on those fantastic tree trunks. Nice work.

Great texture and color and very painterly effect. Gotta love the ancient cedar- magnificent tree. The shining water is a nice contrast of softness against the detailed structure of the trees.
