This is a rework of a slightly different version of the image I originally posted.

This was stack
Nikon D700
Zeiss 50 mm macro

Helicon Focus, LR 3, CS 5, Nik Suite

I'm not through with the cactus yet but wanted to think about the conversion.

Wow! Over the top.

This is in a class on its own. Like everything about this, the flowers, the vase and the wooden table top. :toast: :toast: :toast:

Acckkk... images like this remind me again how superb a photographer you are - just stunning.
Don't know what a Helicon focus is (will be looking it up shortly !) , but the result is enchanting. Perfectly arranged, perfect angle, and that vase is an ideal fit as it echoes the textures of the daffodills. And then that bit of red wood as a cherry on top..

Ack again.

Wow this is sweet man! It almost looks like a slight Orton at the blossoms but I suspect not. The light on the vase and the wood grain table top, it all woreks great. Nice job!

I really love how you have captured the lacey texture of the daffodils here. The structure of each bloom is intact while simultaneously creating the structure of the bouquet. I hope that makes sense.... I love everything about this. So, so, SO well done!

Really well done Pat. I like the side lighting and the orton effect on the blooms. The light hitting the table top is really special. The only nit is the light hitting the cluster of daffs on the left side is pretty strong and bright leading to the image being a little unbalanced for my tastes. A slight reduction in luminosity would fix that pretty quick.

The other was fantastic, but I do believe the glow makes it even more of an artistic expression. Absolutely exquisite!

Pat: Spectacular result. The little details of the color in the vase and the texture of the table elevate this to a very high level. Marvelous shot.>=))>

I didn't even have to look at the poster...knew it was yours, Pat  Beautiful. I think what really puts this in its own category of excellence is the slight bit of the red wood grain on the table. Spectacular, Pat. Nothing more to say.

Awesome daff shot Pat. I think I remember the predecessor. I love the bit of table that shows.

Thanks for the comments you all. I appreciate them.

Bob,

You hit the nail on the head. (smile) I bet I've worked that cluster ten to fifteen different ways. It was the hardest part of the image to figure out. I like side lighting even on birds and wildlife. (Don't tell anyone. (smile)) I brought the brightness up there as bright as I could make it without starting to lose detail in order to try and create a broad dynamic range across the flowers and to show a range of hues based on the intensity of the varying intensity of the light. It is unbalanced, although in my high res version the dark side of the flowers is a little brighter. I'll look at it again in six months or so and see how it strikes me then. Thanks for the suggestion. It's a good one and really does address where I spent ninety percent of my post processing time in this image.

Glorious image, Pat ! Wonderful colouring, and the choice of vase for these daffs is brilliant - the lines in the glass perfectly complimenting the splayed petal edges. The touch of red is stunningly efffective.

I quite like it !! ( smile ).

Pat, do you use Tony Kuyper's actions? I would think using his action for luminosity painting would do the trick.

Every single aspect of this is gorgous Pat, I'm in awe! The lighting, color, composition, and background all come together to make a superb image. Looks like a slight amount of orton?

It's a pity that there isn't a superlative for perfect. It's what your work deserves.
I missed the previous post but this is just beautiful, Pat. You have found the right hues for the impossible yellow od the daffodils. I'll look at it for a long time.
Cheers.

Thanks again for the comments you guys.

Bob,

I do own Tony's software and need to start playing with it. (I love his work.) I bought the NIK suite about a week after Tony's and just didn't get back to it. I intend to remedy that shortly. Good suggestion. Thank you very much.

Thank you Derek. Yes, I did do a light Orton. Gaussian blur setting at 8 and then reduced the layer to about 70 percent opacity.

This stands out in a class of its own, it reminds me of the perfect botanical paintings of 18th century, its very dignified, the vase is elegant, and yet its so vibrant it seems to vibrate! I have learned a lot just from looking at this, what a treasure this photograph is!
