Wash Away + Repost

I got a chance to get out shooting on Saturday before my daughters 2nd birthday party. I have had this photo in mind for a while , with the snow on the tree's and it snowing. I can't seem to get this across in this web version. I am not totally happy with this photo, I wish there was more snow on the tree's, less flow in the river and snowing a little harder. Gives me reason to keep coming back.

It was nice to be standing in the creek listening to the water pound by me, it's funny how simple it is to get lost when you are in these type's of situations and all of life's complexities wash away and you are left with Mother Natures beauty.

All comments welcome please. Thank you.

This works well as a B&W Raymond. DoF and chosen shutter speed looks good. The centered boulder is a little distracting for me, but I don't have any suggestions for a better composition!?! I'm on my lousy work monitor, but you might want to boost contrast just a bit.

Very nice, Raymond. The big rock is a little too imposing in the comp, but not by any means a deal breaker. I think you could push the whites a little more - especially the water

Nice comp and chilly winter scene.

I agree with the pushing the whites a bit more but I like the look of the whole picture. A bit more contrast will definitely be a plus.

The b/w here is really a nice choice, Raymound. I like this. The snow on the rocks and b/g trees looks very nice. I can see why you would want to keep going back here, I would too.
I have gone through some of On, Canada going around Lake Superior and enjoyed it. How far are you from the lake?

Despite not living up to your vision, I still think this is a very nice image. I agree on a contrast boot, mainly darker blacks, but otherwise I think this is just lovely.

I like this comp a lot. The diagonal water line keeps me looking throughout the image and there are nice anchor points in the corners. Perhaps some deeper mid-blacks would add some more punch, but I quite like it the way it is. Nice shot Raymond!

Raymond,

Great choice going with the b&w processing; I think it's very fitting. With that huge boulder in the middle I though for a second this was the Merced River in Yosemite, but I guess all rivers have so much in common... (duh?)

I don't really have any nits, although a suggestion might be to burn down the ULC, kind of adding a vignette, if anything just creating a little more clarity and less brightness in that corner. But that's very minor.

Love the water treatment here and you've composed this well.

The snow adds a new dimension here. I like the contrast is imparts to the land and rocks. I could see pushing the contrast a bit more in the water to add more highlight texture.

Ooops, missed the repost. Much better.

Hi Raymond, The repost is looking good. Thanks for the info on where you are. Guess that is farther east. I was on 17 staying close to Lake Superior. That section up to Wawa was really nice. I plan on going back to spend time just in the area. Nick

Well composed, Raymond. For me this image has power in the
movement of the river amidst solitude on its banks. I like the lighting
and the rock formations.

good job on the repost, though I think the white in the snow covered rocks is a bit too much, and would have probably left that as it was.

Doug I think you are right I do like the lightness of the snow in the first version and will make sure to keep the same texture and lightness of the snow making the print. Thanks again for your comment.
