We were very fortunate to come across five of these "Gems" recently in Malaysia's montane region, as they are normally only seen during breeding season in March/April. This female (necklace around her neck) sat at this perch in deep shade for over 5 minutes. I had previously photographed this bird nesting in Thailand.

1D MkIV, 700mm, 1/50 @ f8, ISO1000, fill flash at -2.33EV, tripod, under jungle canopy shade. Cloned out tiny flash catchlight. Almost full-frame.

What a beautiful bird and what a beautifully done photo! The colors are superb, the BG spot on and the COMP is great. Even a nice head turn thrown in....would be nice to see a larger version though.

KC, what a find. Bird looks gorgeous... wish it didn't have the flash look, but sometimes it's your only option. Very nice

KC, what an awesome looking bird. Your use of flash looks good to me as I would not have known it was flashed if you did not mention it. That is how I gage good use of flash. Love the setting and the head turn. No nits here.

Absolutely gorgeous bird and colors KC! Well done, I don't know why, but my eye keeps going to that darned remnant of a branch in the very TRC, easily fixable if you wanted I'm sure. Thanks for letting me see this specimen! :toast:

Awesome species! Kind of reminds me of a trogon. Only thing I might suggest is to clone out the URC brown stick. Thanks for sharing. :toast:
