D700, Nikon 70-200 @200 f8

Took this shot next to the road in the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. Had a severe drought in 2008 and all the wading birds were concentrated along the road side ditches.

Nice action. The light looks like it was a bit tough to work with. Some of the whites are very bright. It would have helped if you supplied a larger image because I can't tell about the focus.

Glenn,

I probably would have used some negative exposure compensation when this image was created to control the overexpose whites. I'd also suggest getting a lower angle, I feel like I'm standing on a high boardwalk looking down on the egret, being more eye level draws the viewer into the bird's world in most cases.and a lower angle may have also made the background more appealing.

I hope you begin to comment on other members images, it is a great way to learn because you can be more objective about their images than you can your own. By evaluating and noticing what you like, don't like, and paying attention to the setting you begin to absorb more. I've found I learn as much, if not more, by critiquing other people's images as I do by the comments given to me.
