Northern Harrier
by Ron Dudley
Finally had some chances at a few harriers this week - it's been a long time. I think I was very close to the limit for flight shots in low light with my gear. This male was actively hunting (not taking off) and would look up at me occasionally just to make sure I wasn't up to no good.
7D, 1/1250, f/5.6, ISO 800, 500 f/4, +1/3 EV 1.4 tc, shot from pickup window on 11/18/10, small exposure adjustment in ACR, cropped to 48% of original image then added canvas at bottom for composition, brightened bird slightly, cloned three pixels of a distracting bright white spot behind the tip of the beak, sharpened bird, NR applied selectively to the darker browns in the background, no additional processing or adjustments, natural light (cloudy), not set up or baited

The detail is amazing for a flight shot and I like your composition too.
