A. Goldfinch Take II

This morning I spent a while trying to improve on my previous American Goldfinch feeding shots... I think this one would fit in that category. These birds were both feeding on the seeds of a Japanese Black Pine.

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC HH
f/10
1/800s
ISO 500
-.33 EC

Cropped to 83%, sharpened with an extra round for the distant bird.

Like your post. This would make an excellent Christmas card. I would be tempted to crop in a little tighter and maybe see if I could bring out the dark area of the lower bird just a little

I like this one a lot better Luke. The finches seem so nestled into those cones and doing their thing. I think your comp works well too. Well done.

I agree about the birds being nestled into the pine cones. That is very cool. The colors, detail and just clarity of this are great.

I really like both the black pine perch and the feeding activity. As always a very nice image. Great things do come in small packages! :toast:

Sweet comp here Luke. Always nice to get multi birds, especially when they are feeding. Both birds looks sharp in the larger version and they stand out well. Well done.

I prefer this to the previous goldfinch image: this is not as confusing and is helped by showing more blue sky.

I really liked the other one too but this one is even better. Love the seed in the bill and how they are sitting on this perch. Sweet image.

Luke,

Nice work getting both the birds sharp.Love the feeding behavior you caught, the natural colors and the light in both bird's eyes. The soft blue of the background sets off the subtle colors of this species in nonbreeding plumage. I like this alot as posted.
