Going back to my last visit to the good 'ol Blowing Rocks Preserve in Florida. I took this image back in February. I have since moved to Middle Tennessee and I'm starting to think this is the reason for my creative rut. There's not much to shoot up here in terms of landscape photography. Sure, there's a bunch of cool historical buildings and stuff, but it's not my thing. I gotta drive at least 2 hours to get to anything good which is torture when I see perfect shooting conditions.
Anyway, there was something about this scene that really grabbed my eye. Maybe the way the sky mimmicked the water and the rocks. I felt a vertical composition was a must and I wanted a slightly longer exposure to emphasize the streaks in the receding water, but short enough to capture the waves.

This is incredible. An amazing shot for sure. As much as I love the sky, I agree with Matt about a crop off the top. I'd really like to see the horizion classically balanced at 1/3 of the frame. I am not as high on oceanscapes as some on here are, but this is one of the best I've ever seen. The colors, processing, and shutter speed are magical. Congratulations!

I like the big sky, love the detail in foreground and the color is splendid. No crop needed.
this is surely making up for it
Otherwise perfect!
As far as the sky is concerned, I'm actually kinda' partial to it. Especially since most of the details in the clouds are higher up in the frame. The reason I think it works, without having the horizon in the thirds, is that there is sort of a symmetry in the shapes in the sky and the lower half of the scene (One of Ian Plant's tricks that I observed and applied here).
Looking back at the image, I just noticed a dust spot that I need to take care of.
Thanks again!
Don't give up on TN. The light will find you there too. Just give it some time to catch up.
