Raging Surf

After a less than stellar fall foliage season, I decided to pick through my archives. Over the summer I created a new B and W gallery section in my library of images. I've gotten into the BW "thing" this year and find it quite rewarding. This is from film back about 10 years ago. If memory serves me right, I believe the exposure was 6 seconds. I'd enjoy hearing some comments from this east coast dude who is so envious of you west coast dudes! Can I say dude? Didn't John Stewart just catch grief on FOX news for calling our president "dude"? Sorry if I've offended anyone.

This is very cool, dude . . . I really like the long exposure. If you're not familiar with his work you ought to check out Cole Thompson. Really inspiring long coastal BW exposures (particularly his "Monolith" series). This reminds me of his work.

Oh yeah, the horizon is slanted. My only nit.

Thanks Phil for compliment and the lead the Cole's site. I just checked it out. WOW...what great images. This image was just dug up about two weeks ago, so it's fairly new to the library.

lovely, mysterious, and dramatic... very well done, Mitch. I agree the image needs a rotation, but I have to disagree with Kurt... I feel this needs a 1 to 2% clockwise rotation as opposed to a CCW rotation.. I also might clone out the small white wave in front of the farthest sea stack. Great composition. A little tweaking, and this is a real winner.

With a slight rotation, this is an excellent B&W dude! I started with B&W many, many years ago, and just love the contrast. Only minor nit (very minor) is the bright wave in the middle of the image. A touch of a burn down would make this perferct.

The water texture is unusual here so that adds to the appeal. I like the level of contrast in this, the dark shapes and the wispy lights.

Cool, man (too old for the dude stuff). Seriously, this is really outstanding. The wave motion combined with the contrast and tones is superb. Excellent composition. Excellent work.

More like "Ghost Surf". Love the effect in this one. Very creative.
