Red Jack Rainbow

It was a real delight watching this rainbow come and go a couple of times on this morning. This was taken at Red Jack Lake about 10 miles south of Munising in Upper MI. This has to be one of the best mornings I remember for quite some time. Wonderful changing weather in just an hour or so made for exciting times shooting. With this shot I had to change from my 70-200 back to the 24mm to get the whole rainbow. I was worried that it would be gone by the time I was ready to shoot again. Two other photographers from MI where there to enjoy it with me, along with my wife, Cheri. Great Fun! Thanks for looking.

Nick, catching a scene like this is what we all want to do! Very symmetrical.

Can't go wrong with this scene, assuming you've got a wide enough lens that is

I like the light on the distant shore.

FANTASTIC! The clouds make a great background for the rainbow, and the light on the shoreline is gorgeous. My only minor nit is the lightness of the FG -- I think the light brown bottom detracts somewhat from that gorgeous reflection. I think I would softly darken that part of the image to see if it might be even better.

So neat. Even a rainbow reflection . . . and now I see the double rainbow, too. The colorful trees put it over the top.

Nick,

It's magical moments like these that keep us all coming back as nature photographers. It's icing on the cake to come home with something on film or on a CF card, but being in the moment is what we really enjoy the most out of times like this.

I really can't offer any nits or suggestions. Just a congrats for capturing this beautiful moment in time.

Fantastic storm light! Or breaking storm light. Lon is right, it's experiences like these that keep us coming back time and again. Considering the ratio of greatness to busts, it is a profound, and lasting impression these experiences have on us. That's how I see it anyway.

It's certainly a beautiful shot, and to have a double rainbow reflection must be quite rare.

How fortunate to be able to capture a complete rainbow - that seldom happens, at least for me. The dark clouds make a very nice backdrop, and the autumn color is icing on the cake.

Love the way those clouds, trees and rainbow are framed by simplicity of the gray sky and murky fg water. That really helps keep the eye on the prize. Good stuff!

Wow what a great moment you've captured. One of those times that you may be so inspired by the sight in front of you that you forget you have a camera next to you. Awesome!

I really like the eliptical effect with this and of course, the symmetry. The color in the trees lining the lake just add more to this really nice shot. :toast:

Ehi ehi, just wait before thanking everyone, I'm only a bit late at the party!

Stunning image Nick, capturing a full rainbow isn't the easiest thing to do, but when you also have it's full reflection in the same image, this is just not fair!
