I know it's a lame title, what can I say I suck at naming stuff. Thank god my wife thought of cool names for our kids

As mentioned in my previous post, I spent about 5 days last week shooting the Maine coast in Acadia National Park. It was a great trip, although we only had clouds one morning and the days were mostly bright and sunny I managed to produce a number of images that are some of my new favorites. This is from the first morning at one of the more iconic spots in the park. With no clouds and little hope for any kind of drama I went for a long exposure emphasizing the beautiful beach cobbles and the pre-dawn color in the eastern sky.

As for processing, all adjustment (very few really) were done in LR3 with addition of a frame and some web sharpening in CS4. I know some will suggest opening up the shadows but I have to say I quite enjoy the high contrast and deep shadows present in the cobbles. *PS web compression is only helping to boost the already deep blacks

That one green cannonball really makes the shot for me  Great color and exposure, and the comp sweeps nicely to the background. :toast:

Awesome! You picked up so much more color in the sky and water than I managed that morning, Kurt. The slow SS has made the surf mesmerizing. :toast:

Great for me Kurt just the way it is. For a minute there I thought you visited St. Ann's Bay in NS (I pased through Acadia to get to NS this past week). Great light and depth here!

Kurt,

I love the colors and reflected light on the rounded stones. The long exposure is perfect here allowing the stones to be showcased. I also like that you really minimized the sky and letting the horizon simply provide a nice framing element. No nits from me, this is simply a beautiful and well crafted image.

"You picked up so much more color in the sky and water than I managed that morning..." Yeah Ed, it must be a Canon vs. Nikon thing

In all seriousness, I shot it about 30 mins. before the sunrise and the exposure was 110 seconds allowing a lot of color saturation. The images I made later were not nearly as colorful.

I love that green rock, so much so that I'm inclined to see what it would look like cropped to a vertical orientation, a little off each side. Not an issue though. :toast:

Very nice, Kurt. I really like the highlights on the rocks too and the way the contrast with the dark shapes. This is a nice photo.

I always love the mystery of scenes like this. Although a touch contrasaty in spots for me, I really love the reflected light on the wet stones.

Wow, this is stunning Kurt. Absolutely stunning. The reflection on the rocks, the misty water, and the long arc of the waterline are all superb. A real gem of an image.

Excellent image! The colors are great, but the perspective and killer foreground are what make it for me. Sweet. :jump:

Love the contrast in texture and rich color that the long exposure captured here. Well framed with lots of interest top to bottom. Good stuff!
