Greeting the Sun

D90 18-200mm@ 120mm F9 1/180 200 ISO

Caught this out of the corner of my eye at 6:30 this morning while getting ready to do yard chores. Really a fairly dull part of the garden you hardly notice during the day in full light. Ah, the magic hour.

Hope the compression doesn't ruin it.

Great light and a fine composition Bob. I particularly like the diagonal bias. I might consider cloning out the darkest flower on the lower right and maybe moving the crop in a little from the upper right corner. Good looking image as posted.

Bob: Great impact with this one. I would clone/crop away the flower in the RLC and then print it large. :toast: :toast: >=))>

Good suggestion by Bill regarding the LRC flowers. Very nicely done.

Lovely image, Bob. Like the swing of the flowers and the deeply contrasty lighting.

Bob,

The light and contrast here is hard - yet that is what makes this image so strong. The back lighting on all the flower petals is striking; and the dark background perfect.

The flower in the LRC doesn't really bother me too much, although you could darken it some more; I don't think you need to clone it out necessarily. My suggestion would be a crop from the left to perhaps a 4x5 format. For me the image is about the lavender flowers and the diagonals pointing in to the dark shadows. And that leaves the somewhat busy LL taking away from the overall impact a little bit. Not a distraction at all, but more in terms of balance, that's all. In the end, still a lovely and well seen/captured garden floral image.

I agree with Pat's crop suggestion as that would eliminate some empty space in the URC. Wow, what spectacular light on these! Very stunning. I like the diagonal comp and the colors are gorgeous.

Amazing light at dawn, for sure. This shot definitely takes advantage of it. Good recommendations from Pat and Bill.

Very lovely Bob. The backlighting really makes this. I also like your composition here.

Bob:
I am sure glad I open up this image as the thumbnail does not quite show how fantastic the light is on this image (even better on the larger image). Well seen and captured.
