OIl Spill Least Bittern

A volunteer arrives at the Fort Jackson Oiled Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Buras, LA, July 8, 2010 with a Least Bittern that had been trapped in the oil soaked marsh. I posted a photo here a few days ago and just wanted to post another. There may be a few more as i go through the take. I think this image show the human caring that's going on down there for the wildlife. As you can see the woman is holding the bird like its the last of its kind. Happy to report the Bittern was not too bad off and was released in FLA a few days ago

Model: NIKON D3
Firmware: Adobe Photoshop CS4 Macintosh

Very cool Douglas. I like the expression on the volunteer...goes very well with the photo and story.

This really emphasizes how tiny this species is, the look of concern on the volunteers face goes well with the image too. Glad he made it. :toast:

great shot, Douglas, it really says a lot. conveys the caring, and also the vulnerability of the little bird. this will stay with me.

Hi Douglas,
Very emotional scene but in all honesty this is not the proper forum for this image. I saw you posted it first in the Environmental Photojournalism Gallery and that is where it belongs. Just trying to follow the guidelines of the galleries.

I posted here not for the critique but to let what I consider a really caring group of avian photographers see what’s happening to the birds on the gulf coast. Yes I did post to both forums but only because I have not seen any images on the site from the effects of the oil spill. I know the rules but just thought fellow bird lovers would like to see first hand what’s happening to the lucky ones. I as a fan of the avian gallery almost never go to the other galleries. Why would I? The best photographers are here with the birds:) I just wanted my friends here to see what I have been seeing as a professional news photographer. I get a free pass to a lot of things that most citizens never get to see and its also in my nature to want to spread the word that’s all. Sometimes rules need to be broken. :toast:

This depicts the human species at its finest! I feel the same respect of volunteers that help wildlife as I do our soldiers that go to war for our country! :toast:

Douglas, This is an excellent capture of both the bird and the woman, and it really tells a story. She obviously cares deeply about the birds. I'm going to send this link to some of my cohorts at the wildlife hospital here in Central Florida. I know they'll appreciate it. Thanks for sharing.
