The White River

My first post of an image taken on my recent Iceland trip, this image was taken very near the Gullfoss Waterfall (part of the Icelandic Golden Circle). This is the Hvítá river (also White River) which here can be seen flowing down a canyon (which is about 2,5 kilometers long).

We had an overcast day (also great for long ss waterfall images which I'll post later on) which lent itself for a moody b&w conversion. I've never made a lot of succesfull b&w nature images before, but with the help of TK's action's and tutorials I was able to get a very satisfactory result! These actions truly changed and enhanced my PP skills and images in general! Please view the larger version as well.

Thank you for looking!

Tech: Canon 7d, 17mm @ f/11

The river makes a nice leading line and I really like the dramatic sky. There is great detail and tonality throughout, excellent conversion.

First off, I really like your composition. As already stated there is wonderful depth here and the river pulls me right into the scene. The subtly of light here is very nice too. There are alternating areas of dark gray and light gray that add a dynamic character to the scene. They seem natural and blend together very well. Great to hear the masks were useful in this. If I had to make a suggestion here it might be to burn down the upper right edge, but that would be more as an experiment to see if it holds the eye inside the frame a bit more.

This makes a very nice B&W image, I think. The composition is perfect.

Jorne,

Top notch landscape image of earth and sky. both are terrific in this b&w rendition and I actually like how the sky/clouds are kind of outlined with the lighter tones. Although I do see Tony's suggestion and it all boils down to your personal taste and choice. Composition is excellent with river leading the viewer thru the frame. Nice work and thanks for sharing.
