Quivers & Stars

I have just printed this at 24"x16" and am pleasantly surprised with the IQ at this high ISO (4000). Obviously some (selective) noise reduction was applied. What bothered me more actually is the corner softness at this Aperture. But with images like these you know you are sacrificing IQ; despite that it is certainly usable (and saleable - already sold it!)

This image was taken in the middle of the night several minutes before the moon set, no artificial light used.

Quiver trees (Aloe dichotoma), Quiver tree forest, Namibia
Camera Model Canon EOS-5D Mark II
Shutter Speed 25 Sec.
Aperture Value f/2.8
ISO Speed 4000
Lens EF16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM @ 16mm

Awesome. There can't be a better tree on the planet to use for such a shot. Incredibly interesting and otherworldly. Easily my favorite landscape I have seen of yours.

Cool! Awesome landscape. Great job on the sky. My only (minor) nit is i wish the milky way were a little bit more to the right, so it doesnt blend in with the main fg subject. :toast:

Wow. Awesome scene. I think a slightly higher vantage point might have cleared those rocks but maybe you wouldn't have gotten as much of the sky if you had done so?

Very cool. The noise looks well controlled for such a high ISO.

Well done, Vincent. Nice job on that gorgeous starry BG and use of available light in the foreground. Not bad at all for ISO 4000. :toast:

lovely image vincent. all working for me - the only thing i regret is the merge between the milky way and the left quiver tree. compositionally, i feel it would have been enhanced with the milky way cutting diagonally between that tree and the others. that's a long way of saying perhaps take five steps to the right!

Fantastic work, Vincent! Very original and beautiful. My only nit, to really split hair here, would be to have less of the milky way disk to be obscured by the trees. Perhaps next time you could rip them out and replant them in the right place?

Hi Vincent,

This is amazing.
I love taking night landscapes and star field, I wish one day I could take a photo as baueitful as this one. I hope that sums up how I like this work.
