Trillium on the stream

This is an image from a few years back. Captured in the Sol Duc valley in Olympic National Park.

5D, 17-40 @ 25mm
2.5 sec. @ f/16
ISO 100

The intent of this image was to emphasize the flower and put it in an environmental setting. Hope that message worked.

Larger versions shows more detail.

Thx for your thoughts.

Score…!!
Mission accomplished with this one.

Even at f/16 the background rocks seem to be a bit out of focus, but this is works if your intent was to emphasize the flower.

I might have focused just a bit behind the flower.

I love the comp and color here Keith. The flower I think is emphasizing its world like an MC on a stage (and I mean that in a good way). Beautiful scene.

The trillium takes what would have been a decent water fall image, to a whole new level of composition. Great eye!

I have a similar plastic flower that I carry with me and stick in the foreground. Handy, huh? Just kidding, of course, but not a bad idea given the effectiveness of the trillium in this image. Very pretty scene, and well captured.

Awesome! The trillium grabs my attention and the large rock on the right gives the image a nice balance. Perfect comp. I would prefer a little more detail in the water, but that's a personal taste. This is a top notch image. :jump:

Very refreshing image - excellent composition and placement of the elements. Wish there was a tad more room at the top though (minor nit).

Keith,

A lovely image that certainly emphasizes the flower in a beautiful setting. The semi-soft background even helps to keep the attention on the flower, so that works well. Although there's so much more than just the flower so I'm wishing it was all sharp, but that's minor.

Not quite sure what you meant by writing: "put it in an environmental setting." Now I don't know enough about the Trillium nor this environment, but are you saying you put the flower here? Or this is a found scene? Doesn't really matter as the result is quite pleasing. Just curious though.

Lon: The flower was really there. I just found this beautiful scene and wanted to capture the essence of this flower growing along the stream. I could have pulled out the macro and tried to capture just the flower, but opted to attempt a capture of the "environment" where the flower was. That's what I was trying to say. Guess I didn't say it well
