Chased storms Thu-Fri in the eastern Colorado Plains and into the NE panhandle. Made a critical mistake Thu that cost me a real photogenic tornado (nearly cried when i saw the pics of what i missed!) but at least i saw some great storms (more in M&N) and nothing beats a sunset over the Plains following a round of severe storms.
In retrospect, should have sacrificed some DOF for this shot since ISO 800 wasnt enough to prevent motion blur--oh well! This is off some dirt road west of Sterling CO.

Stan I like the dark graphic nature. The plugged shadows definitely has a film feel. I assume the horizon is correct with tilt. If I had to pull a tweak out of my picky hat, I'd say I would like the horizon a bit more away from center. Any-Hoo, nice job!

That foreground is certainly detailed ;) I like the color match between the sky/fore.

Wow, that's some dramatic light, Stan! The chaotic motion of the flowers enhances the drama. Can't wait to see more!

Thanks!
There is no tilt here--just rolling hills that happen to tilt up to the right (see my RMNP post for a wider view of the landscape in mid afternoon)

This has a unique look to it, Stan, and maybe it's a little strong for me on the 'not how I'm used to seeing' scale. The yellow is quite strong, and my eye is drawn in a little too much to the black spots. ...and, real or not, the perceived tilt is a distraction.

Strong colors. Can't quite decide on the composition. I'm with the others on the tilt. Whether it is real or perceived, looking just at this image it has a tilt. Can't rely on what was really there or a bigger landscape to discern the issue or not.

Very nice light, the DOF seems to be perfect to me and the sky is really fabulous.
Very nice!

I like the eerie light and clash of bright light and dark storm clouds Stan. The quality of light reminds of the storms I am so fond of on Inverness Beach NS. I like how the foreground just glows also.

Wow, that is some incredible light Stan! Great portrait of the plains after a spring thunderstorm. Now over to M&N to see what you got there... The new website looks fantastic!!!!!!

Beautiful, Stan. I like the softly illuminated foreground and the explosion of light in the sky. It does "feel" off center but my eye is undoubtedly being tricked. Hope you get the big tornado next time. Be safe!

Based on C&C, worked up a new version--straightened the pseudo tilt, cropped closer to thirds (my bad) and took out some of the yellow--looks much closer to how i saw it now, thankx-S

Stan,

It's amazing to me how 2 very minor and subtle adjustments can make such a huge different. For me at least, the repost is far and away a better image - even though they're almost identical. I don't know how else to explain it. I've been looking at the original for a few days now (I'm behind...) and not feeling comfortable with the image completely... then I open this up again and see the repost and I'm simply amazed. s'plain that one to me...

Lon

ps. I think the Rule of Thirds is actually pretty powerful. Maybe that's why I like the second one so much.

Cool shot Stan - now with the (pseudo) tilt corrected and the other tweaks it works pretty well for me. Love those colors in the sky - they look believable. The golden glow at the horizon is impressive.
