My favorite shorebird - they seem to have the most personality.

Sagg Main Beach, Bridgehampton

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC HH laying on beach
f/8
1/3200s
ISO 640
-.33 EC

Cropped to 50% - no additional room on right, sharpened subject, noise redux on BG, 2 minor healing brush patches

- Luke

Always nice to see this threatened/endangered species. Good job getting low. Why such a high ISO - it looks like you hadf plenty of light with that shutter speed.

Rich,

I had been shooting Terns in flight and needed a fast SS to freeze it all so the ISO was unfortunately not changed. The though super high SS resulted in not getting any motion blur on the legs (I'm sure you're aware of how fast these guys are) and getting the sand grains suspended in mid-air.

great light, and nicely frozen motion, Luke. your low angle is excellent, and the exposure has lots of detail in the whites. I think it could use a bit more room in front of the bird, but that is very minor. :toast:

Luke, I love these shorebirds and have only photographed a few. I like the blue strip on top and the nice walking pose. I may have taken it a bit out of the center-but this is a lovely shot that I would be proud of.

Hello. This would be very easy to add a bit of canvas in front of the bird, if you wanted to. I really like the effects of the fast ss, such as the sand grains in mid-air. Different, as usually we try to put just a hint of motion into it. Super sharp, too! Excellent image, Luke.

Soft light, low angle and a dynamic pose all come together to make a very nice image, Luke. It may only be an illusion, but it feels like it needs a hair of CCW rotation.

Well done Luke. The low angle makes a large difference. I think your choice? of shutter speed/ISO worked well for you for the reasons you mention, intentional or not. I do think some slight CCW rotation might be called for, as David mentioned.

I love these little guys. I too would add more canvas on the right Luke. Nicely caught.

Beautiful low angle shot. Flying sand grains, this looks like it is quite a 'dashing' bird.

Lovely image and great low angle view.
Only wish the bird was a bit less centred.

Looks very good Luke, like how you caught em' mid-stride..Really stands out in this setting with the blurred BG/FG, and the blue top defines the image
Well done :toast:

Sweet shot of this cutie, Luke. Great pose, light and setting here. As mentioned by others, I would prefer a bit more room in front too. :toast:
