The second of this species that I've posted from a recent trip to Costa Rica, this time I was a lot closer to the subject, and slightly better lighting.

Thanks for taking a look.

Chuck, Excellent pose with nice light on the bird. Good job getting the flycatcher unobstructed. I also like your composition. The bird seems slightly soft - perhaps from a relatively slow shutter speed. Was this hand held? If you haven't tried already I might try to tone down some of the brights in the foliage and personally I'd clone out the leaf bit in the LL corner. A beautiful bird that I enjoy seeing.

I agree with Ron. At 1/80 sec, this one needed a tripod. Good job though, getting it as sharp as you did. The small bit of leaf in the LLC doesn't bother me, but I would definitely tone down the foliage a notch.

The setting and light are really nice, Charles, The image softness is noticeable in the large version.

nice light, and great view of the bird. what an interesting variation on our North American silky-flycatcher (Phainopepla)! Only wish it were sharper, but it doesn't look like you had a lot of light to work with--I guess this is why so many of the best tropical shots seem to use flash.

Wow, makes our flycatchers look rather dowdy in comparison. Excellent setting and you got quite close to the subject it appears. Ron said it best. The 720 pix view looks very good, the larger shows some softness.

Excellent. Wonderful feather detail. The bird shows up beautifully against the dark background.

Really pretty bird unfortunately a little soft yet what more could you do at 800 ISO and 2,8? I must visit Costa Rica sometime. Thanks for sharing.
