Sunken Treasure

Wanaka, New Zealand

My take on this much photographed tree in Wanaka. Shortly after I left the area, the lake was flooded and the tree almost fully submerged. I photographed this under bright sunny conditions with a blue sky to enhance the wonderful colour of this lake's water.

Canon 5DMkII, 300mm 4L IS, ISO 50, f32, 1.6 seconds, polarizer, 3 stop ND, tripod.

Very powerful image, maybe the yellows are too much "pumped" but I haven't a proper display so...
Incredible tree!!!

This is really really cool Kah! Super work, I would not change a thing. The blue almost tropical feel mixed with the gold really makes this piece stand out.

Beautiful scene. I guess you were stopped down so much in order to get a "smooth" water effect? Amazing detail and colors! Nice work! :wavey:

Striking Kah. You may have to change your name to non-magic hour travelscapes.

Bright sunny conditions? Please explain how you do that. Inquiring minds want to know.

What a great background to this scene. The telephoto does a great job of pulling this all together. Light looks good.

Kah,

Outstanding color and great job of recognizing (and/or planning) the timing of this. Does go to show that images can be had in mid day light. No nits here, although I'm trying to grasp the idea that this flooded and almost submerged the tree? yikes.

Thanks very much for the comments. Bruce, many glacial lakes have their most intense colour when a blue sky is reflected in the water. White cloudy skies make the water look dull. Colourful sunsets give a magenta colour cast. None of these complement the gold leaves so I chose midday with the longest exposure I could muster.
