Cassin's Finch?
by Ed Dubois
I'm not sure about the ID of this one. It was shot in south central Oregon at Cabin Lake. This was one of several species that showed up at the perch set up by a water source in this dry landscape.

I think this is a Cassin's finch too. The mantle and the scapulars appear to have a faint pink wash to them, the streaking on scapulars seems crisp & distinct, I can easily see the pale eye ring. I hope to hear what others think on the ID.
This image has a very nice feel to it, I like the pose of the finch and the great head angle. I like the perch the bird is on, the background and the light.
Definitely a Cassin's Finch. Besides the marks that Mia mentioned, notice how much brighter the reds in the crown are than anywhere else, and the fairly long bill (relative to Purple or House) with a straight culmen (upper edge).
