Bald Eagle Twins

This past summer I discovered a Bald Eagle nest just as the chicks were showing their heads over the rim of their nest. I followed them every two or three times a week through the summer and into the fall. This photograph was taken from about 75 yards just as they were learning how the fly. They would land on the ground and then return to the nest. I must have, at least, one hundred photophraphs of the progress.

Camera: Fujifilm Finepix S100fs
Shutter: 1/240
Aperture: f5.3
Focal Length: 101.5

Ross - Sounds like a great adventure. Having the opportunity must have been a lot of fun. The image colors look very over saturated. Don't know if it is from your processing or from something that happened in your posting. You didn't mention what equipment and technical specs were associated with this shot. Providing that information will help in getting feedback on your images.

What a great experience! I agree with Keith about the over saturated colors.

Keith and Monica, Gee thanks for the quick feedback. The camera I was using has a film simulation setting. It takes three rapid images, provia, velvia, and what I would call Kodak Gold 100. The images all have just a little bit different coloration with velvia being the most saturated. This one is the Velvia. I think I need a new camera. I have been looking at the Sony Alfa 900. All the information I have read is very possitive accept the weight. Anyone have any experience with the Sony?

Welcome to NPN Avian Ross. How fortunate you were able to get these youngsters together like this. Nice catch!

I agree with Keith about the over saturation of the colours. In my experience camera presets for colour saturation tend to be too strong. Your post processing software should allow you to decrease the saturation to get a more realistic look with minimal effort.

Hope you'll post more soon and join in on commenting too. :wavey:

Ross,

It must have been nice to follow these youngsters for the time period you mentioned.

I like that you got the two birds in the same image like this. I agree that the image appears oversaturated for my tastes and it is also a bit blurry. You should be able to tone down the saturation, I am not sure though that sharpening will make this a stronger image, it may make noise a serious issue. A little more shutter speed may have helped with the blur.

Looking forward to seeing more of your images.
