Ian,
Another great shot - it's amazing how interesting of a subject this is to me, but if it were an Eastern Grey Squirrel, I would find it rather dull because they are so "common" to me. The only bit of constructive critiquing I can do is say that f/5.6 or f/6.3 would have served you better in getting the end of the tail in focus - but the SS was already dangerously low (depending on how still these guys sit)

Thanks Luke
These are native to Scotland and under threat from the introduced grey squirrel, which harbours a pox virus which is lethal to the reds. They are also under threat due to declining habitat. Thankfully there is a national programme to protect them. You're right about the SS - I was about to pack up for the day.

That is one fantastic perch for this beautiful squirrel. Love the squirrels pose. Great composition and that background really places the emphasis on the subject.

Nicely composed image. These squirrels always make excellent subjects for photographs but you've got the added bonus of a interesting perch. Also the background colour blends in well. Graham

That fantastic perch makes this special Ian, well done. I agree with Luke here about the DOF, although that is minor and does not affect the image in principle, it would merely have perfected it.

Hey Ian,
Is that perch available for rent or sale? Love it. Oh yeah, and what's perched on it isn't half bad either!
I think this is simply an excellent image. I read Luke's comment about the DOF and I suppose this image would even be better with slightly more DOF (or if the squirrel had moved it's tail back a centimetre or so!) but to me that's a REALLY, REALLY minor nit and hardly detracts from this wonderful image.
Thanks for sharing this...really nicely done...

Ha! I should maybe point out that it is actually the remains of a natural tree stump, still in its original position, so I'm afraid I can't send it across the pond to you!

What a beautiful squirrel! The red squirrels around here don't have tuffs on their ears. Very cool to see something different. Perfect comp and DOF choice. Congrats on the EP!
