It was Christmas day but there was no pear tree for this little guy.

Nice image, Ron. Great job on not blowing out the snow. :toast:

Composition reminds me of the flag of Japan. It emphasizes the bird's conformation. The larger view appears to show the head as slightly soft. Do you think the focus is on the head or snow?

Beautiful bird!
A lower angle would have been nice, but we take what we get!
I agree the head is a bit soft..

Great looking member of the grouse family Rob, it looks like you might have used Noise reduction here, and some detail is lost , giving the face a soft look .

Ron, nice bird with great colors against the snowy BG. I agree that it could be sharper and I was thinking the same as Nick that it looks like NR was used? If so, I might try re-processing with less. One last suggestion might be to remove the pinkish color cast of the snow.

I have never seen one of these beautiful birds. I love the colors set off against the snow. I agree that a lot of detail seems to be missing.

Ron,

That partridge looks like it ate too much for Christmas dinner, it sure is plump.

The bird does appear soft to my eye and the larger version shows a lack of detail, if NR was used I would reprocess and usie NR selectively and sparingly. I believe the image could be stronger.

The bird looks like it is thinking "Fancy meeting you out here today" Love the contrast.
