Who named this bird anyway? LOL. This is my first image with my new camera and I am quite pleased. I'm having issues with my PC though as it will not read the raw files in Bridge in CS4 Is that normal? I love that the shutter is more quiet on this camera so the birds don't fly off immmediately. I think the image could be a bit more sharp but hey it was handheld with my monster lens so I am excited to see my images with a tripod.
Canon 7D 300 mm 2.8 L lens
ISO 640 f5.6 1/160 handheld Some Nr applied but not as much as needed before

Yea it's a bit of a silly name... I thought my professor was making things up when he first told me. Classic pose and nice detail - the lighting could be a bit better, and it could be a touch sharper on the head but they are minor issues.

As for the RAW file, I'm thinking it's 1 of 2 things.
1. You need update your CS4 to get the 7D info as CS4 came out BEFORE the 7D.
2. If that does not work, or is not the case, you will need the Adobe DNG converter. . . which is kind of annoying, but in theory it's better preservation for your files as DNG should be around as a file type longer than .NEF or Canon's RAW file.

But, as several people on this site have the 7D and I haven't heard anyone griping about the DNG converter need (This is what I needed for the d300s + CS3) I think the answer lies in # 1.

Hey Luke. Yes it was a cloudy yucky day for shooting but this is my first titmouse so I just HAD to post it. LOL. You must be right about the dng thing cause I updated the cs4 and was able then to work in camera raw but still not see in bridge. I'll check into that.Thankyou :wavey:

Nice image with an interesting BG. I am not sure why you are having problems with Bridge if you updated ACR in CS4. Try doing a Bridge update. Or close Bridge altogether and open again to see if it sets the RAW converter correctly.

Welcome to the 7D gang, Cheryl! I find it so much fun to this camera. I bet that you will too. I've been using Digital Photo Professional (the Canon software supplied with the camera) to convert the raw files to tif files and then loading them from there into LR and then CS4. However, I note that the latest upgrade of both LR and CS4 now allow 7D raw files to be loaded directly. Apparently these are now the "final" versions of these upgrades (previously you could do it but the results were not all that great). So, why don't you just try updating your CS4? Regarding the "Little Titmouse", I think he's really cute and acceptably sharp too. :toast:
P.S.: Looks like I'm too slow in commenting. This group is pretty quick with the advice. Bridge works fine for me with the raw files.

Looks pretty sharp to me Cheryl, and I like the included habitat a lot.

As for the 7D, the comments below make it sound like the update for the 7D is now final--a few weeks ago I downloaded a beta version from the adobelabs website.

I should probably make a forum post on this, but I am so far dissatisfied with my 7D, which sounds to me like it is a problem with my specific camera (and some others out there), not the 7D in general. On mine the AF is very spotty and often misses and I am sure that it is not user error. I think I am going to have to send mine in to be fixed or replaced.

I like the multilayered background Cheryl and the look to the heavens he is giving (that touches me). The leaf that is intersecting the bird is a bit unfortunate, but still a pleasing image. I'm sure you will have many enjoyable days in the field using your new gear.

Nice, Cheryl. It sounds like they've made updating Photoshop a little better. You used to have to download a whole new set of camera files and replace the old one n the file structure when they came out with a new camera. Why the camera manufacturers need to change the RAW format for every new camera, I'm not sure. :toast:

Nice shot witht he new setup Cheryl. Glad to see you finally pulled the trigger. I can't answer your quesiton about bridge. I bring in my shots through Lightroom and it supports it. Not sure why no update would be available for Bridge. I agree with Luke about DNG. I convert mine in Lightroom for that reason.

Cheryl,

I believe the word titmouse is from Old English, tit (any small object or animal) and mase (small bird) so it means small bird.

I like the setting you have here, the soft subdued colors are complimentary to the titmouse. Agree with you that it could be sharper, but I have some experience shooting under ths canopy of the trees in FL, it isn't easy even at ISO 640, especially handheld.

Love the tilt of the bird's head, they have such lovely eyes and this image shows that well.

Hi Cheryl, I like the image but agree with the small nits mentioned. And I got a kick out of your opening question. I hope you enjoy your 7D as much as I have mine, at least so far...
