Pyrrhuloxia

This male Pyrrhuloxia was feasting on fallen Hackberries in Catalina State Park. A close relative of the Northern Cardinal, this species is close to the northern edge of his range here just north of Tucson, AZ.

Comments and suggestions are quite welcome.

I haven't seen many images of this species on the ground. This bird is high on my want-list , and of course never strays into Saskatchewan!
A shame there wasn't more of a head-turn here Hans

Hans,

I like every thing about this image, I find the setting very appealing and the colors soft & natural. I like the details, light in the eye and the great view this angle gives us of the large bill this species has.

A fine image as posted.

I just saw my first one of these a couple months ago. I love their colors and your image does them justice. I love the raised crest and the side view that shows the colors so well. Really nice light. Gorgeous image.
