Gentle Storm

This challenge has brought forth copious nice photos--at least better than the signs (grins).

This was among a long series of photos taken of this storm and other associated with it. Rain is falling water.... Location: Northeast Kansas, summer of 2008.

This was taken before I really got into digital. A Nikon Coolpix 5700 was the item used. Can't find the metadata.

Enjoy and C and C if you wish.

Well,
Larry the limitations of your equipment didn't kill the image. Although I'm a sucker for an nice storm at sunset photo. Like the colors and the downburst of rain falling out of the clouds.

Great range of colors with nice gradations. Setting the huge clouds low in the frame makes for a very interesting perspective. In general it looks soft, but maybe that's by choice.

Kent,
You are right. I does look soft. I checked the original from which this was reduced.

There was a noise reduction which did soften it slightly but the trees to the far right are adequate. Some of the softness is from a "degenerating" storm which does not have the sharp edges of the rising and building storm.

At least that's my take.

Great colors and I like the placement of the storm in the frame - it's an interesting perspective. I agree that it looks a little soft, though.

Im a sucker for pretty clouds, Larry--so i love this! I might crop half the top blue. If the softness bugs you some careful midtone contrast might 'sharpen' it a bit. Nice entry!

I agree with Stan's crop suggestion, which would focus more attention on the beautiful colorful clouds and sky below. I'm also a little distracted by the black area above the horizon on the right. Accordingly, I'd suggest cropping the right to eliminate this, although it seems like it could alternatively be cloned out relatively easily without cropping.

Wonderful color and cloud formation Larry. I agree with some of the others that a crop from the top would emphasize the fantastic clouds.
