Sunset on the Chitina
by Doug Roane
The Nizina River, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Taken from the air. Maybe a little different - I really minimized processing on this one - how's it working for you? C&C appreciated.
Canon 5DMII. 16-35 @ 33 mm. ISO 800. f/13. 1/90 sec.

22 commentsIt works great and the aerial view lends some beautiful shapes and forms. Love the ribbons of rivers below.
great job

Seems that most of the bigger rivers have a similarity. Reminded me of the Delta River from the air.
This is a great capture through an aircraft window!
I like the meanders heading towards the sun, the texture of the skyline and the contrast of the entire photo.

Works just fine for me as is. The minimal 'development' is just right.
This appears to be a minority opinion, so I'd take it with a large grain of salt, but I'd like to see a hair more detail brought out of the lower left-hand quadrant. Not much--just a little bit.
The light, the depth, and especially that braided river make his a stellar shot. Hope you printed this big and hung it proudly!
Awesome - that's the Chitina River, though, not the Nizina. :) The river disappears around the back of McColl Ridge, and the Nizina runs into it further downstream. Mt Blackburn is the grand peak in the upper right corner of the frame.
Re, Tony' K's comments -- Ironically, most of the lower half of this river WAS on fire earlier in the summer, and the fires didn't really die down until late August - so there may well be some smoke drifting up there.
Cheers
