Malheur NWR. I don't really like the post very much, but it was all I could get from the auto and, when I tried a stalk, the bird flew...

C & C, please.

Not a bird I see very often that far above the ground: when I try to shoot them from my car window I'm always looking way down at the ground. I'd take advantage of this opportunity in a second.

Really nice, Jim.. I like the post, too! Just a little tight at the tail, but this is darn good! Sharon

I love these birds subtle colors. Excellent feather details and this is the kind of perch I would expect to find them on. The head turn and light shadowing of the the belly are nice.

Jim,

I like the pose of your pipit, the warm colors of the bird against the cool tones of the background, the hint of light in the eye and the nice details in the feathers.

The post has texture & character, so it looks fine to me.

Nice head turn from the pipit Jim and you did well with the challenging light angle. The post perch works for me but I'd like to see the front of it sharper. Interesting to see the effect of your DOF on the left side of the post.

Very nice job with the sidelighting here Jim, good detail in the shaded areas. If it were mine I would crop just a little bit from the top. :toast:
