Hello, I am a new member, and would like to introduce myself.  I am 66 and retired from AT&T.  I live in S. Florida presently, but will be moving to PA.  I love the outdoors and photography.  I found this site, and have been following for awhile. I realized it wasn't right learning so much from the posts and critics without supporting the site I am an amateur picture taker and want to become more of a "photographer".  I guess I am ready to overcome my fears and begin posting some of my photos.
My first challenge is learning how to prepare a photo and getting it posted. I look forward to seeing critics and comment of my photos.
Thanks in advance for all help I know I will received

Welcome to NPN, Carl!

Here is how to post images for critique:
  1. :Go to the Galleries dropdown menu and select the gallery that is appropriate for your image.
  2. Once in the gallery view (thumbnails of images posted), select 'Post a Photo' at the top of the page.
  3. You will be presented with a block for the image title, and a comment box.
  4. Add a title and any comments you wish to make about the image.
  5. The remainder of the page gives options for posting posting your image.
  6. When you are ready to post your image, click 'Post Photo' at the bottom of the page.
Here are some guidelines:

Upload Photo:

Browse a photo from your computer to upload. Maximum allowable size is 1600 pixels/1 MB. This single upload will be used to automatically generate the thumbnail and the intermediate 720 pixel photo.

Note - the gallery software will downsize a large photo to fit the browser window but with some loss of quality. For this reason, based on current screen resolution statistics we recommend sizing your photo to no larger than 800 pixels in height or 1200 pixels in width (whichever is largest) to help ensure best quality of presentation.

Please read our NPN Posting Guidelines page which gives more detailed information.

Writing critiques of the work of others serves two purposes. First, the photographer will benefit from your observations, and second, you will develop your seeing. We encourage all members to critique the work of others. The general guideline is to write a critique for five images to each one of your own that you post. Please see The Art of Image Critique , and the follow-up article, More Thoughts on Photo Critique here at NPN. I am sure you will find them informative and helpful.

If you need help with editing/adjusting images for posting, please post your question(s) in our Digital Imaging Forum. If you do post there, please let us know what image editing software you are using.

Again, welcome, and we look forward to your participation, Carl!

Welcome aboard, Carl!

Preston pretty well covered all the bases. As he mentioned, I think you will find as much personal benefit and growth from posting your images and getting feedback as you will from making comments on the work of others. The commenting part really forces one to critically analyze what works and what doesn't work for you in others' images and will greatly improve "your eye". And others will benefit from your insight, no matter your skill level. Also, the more you comment, the more inclined others will be to comment on your images. Win/win all around.

I am looking forward to seeing your work!

Welcome to NPN Carl.  Can't wait to view your images.  I think you'll find NPN to be a friendly and encouraging site as well as an excellent learning opportunity.  In addition to receiving comments, please be sure to leave comments on others' work too; you'll discover two things from that.  One, you'll receive more comments on your work, but more importantly, I've discovered I actually learn more from leaving comments than receiving them because it makes you study others' work to see what works and what doesn't, and what you like and what you don't.  It will actually help you develop you own style, taking a little knowledge from each piece you comment on and putting it away for future use.  Welcome aboard again!

Welcome to NPN Carl. Can't wait to give you a ration, er, I mean provide my insights, like they do for me on this site.  Just kidding, this is an excellent place to learn and to improve even if you are already very good at your photographic craft.
