Welcome!

First, I thought the best thing to do would be for everyone to introduce himself or herself. You can do that here in this thread. (Actually, I believe there is only one person, so lets hear from you!)

You can give your name, where you are from, the camera and equipment you currently use, the photo editing software you use, and maybe something about yourself that has nothing to do with photography. That might be fun.

Here is a little about me:

As you know, The Ultimate Guide to Digital Nature Photography will be our textbook throughout this course - both Parts One and Two. If you do not have a copy, you should pick one up as soon as possible. Here is the best place.

The first things I would like you to do are the following:

1) Read the First Chapter of the Ultimate Guide. I would really like you to have this done by Wednesday, December 5, if possible. Since there aren't any projects associated with learning about photography equipment, I would like to go ahead and get this chapter out of the way. If you have any questions at any time about the content in this first chapter of the book, simply post your questions here and I will answer them.

(FYI...I will be logging on here several times each day, checking for questions, leaving answers and comments, etc. You can leave comments and questions at any time.)

2) I would like you to post an image in a new, separate thread. First, this introduces you to the way images are posted on NPN and you will be posting many images over the next few weeks. Might as well learn now. Second, I would like to leave a comment about your work - just so you can see how this all works and how it will be going forward. Let's see if we can get this done by Wednesday, as well.

By Wednesday, I will have a new assignment that will involve new material form Chapter Two of the book.

Looking forward to working with you over the next several weeks!

Richard

Hi my name is Michelle Sistare. I am from Lancaster, South Carolina. I currently use a Nikon D70s with a 28-105 lens and also a 55-200 lens. I also have a Nikon SB-700 external flash. I have recently started playing around with PhotoShop.

Good to see you, Michelle! There are only two students - you and Anjanita - so let's wait to hear from her.

Hi. Sorry for the late post.
Nice to meet you here Michele. I am glad I am not the only one here.
My name is Anjanita Mahadoo and I live in Media, Pennsylvania.
I recently started using a Cannon 3D with an 18-55 lense and a 55-250 lense. Just ike Michelle, i just started "playing" with Photoshop, or any photo editing software, for that matter.
Other than photography, I have a passion for traveling the world, which is what I do during school breaks, and which is when I take most of my pictures.

Question for Richard: what kind of image do you want us to upload? Does it have to be edited?
Posted by Richard Bernabe on December 6, 2012 at 2:52 PM
Hey guys, thanks for responding but no one has posted an image yet in a separate post. I really need you all to do that so I know that you know how to do it. This is how we're going to share images and critiques...

Any kind of image will be fine. Just so I know you can do this with no problems..

Let me know if you have any questions. Once we get this done, I can give you the first real assignment.

Richard I have tried several times to post a photo. I keep getting the message that image file must not be bigger than 300kb in size. I'm not sure what this means or what I'm doing wrong can you please help.
Thanks Michelle

I just uploaded a picture without following any posting guideline whatsoever. I can't see it here but I'm hoping you are able to view it.
Posted by Richard Bernabe on December 8, 2012 at 4:41 AM
You need to resize the image before posting. It cannot be any larger than 720 pixels wide and the total size of the image file cannot exceed 300mb.

Anjanita, I don't see your image. After resizing the image using a photo editing software program (Photoshop, Elements, Lightroom, Aperture, Picasa, etc.) go to the top of the page and click on "Post a Topic" then attach the photo at the bottom. I'll do one just as an example.

I would definitely read the Posting Guidelines for help.
