Bright new leaves
Some trees put on the best display with their new leaves. This one, while some distance away, caught my attention with its plumage. Sorry, no idea what kind of tree it is.

Canon 20D
ISO 100
Canon EF 100-400 @400mm
f/5.6 for 1/25 of a second

Thanks for looking!

Those look like the ones we saw yesterday over near Buzzard Roost although yours are a bit more red than what we saw. Our local flower and tree ID guru, Don Kurz, is in Mexico all this week - he will have a lot of catching up to do when he gets back! If he would only come home sober....

Tim I really like this alot! I am sooo glad you posted this because it is a shot that I would have walked right past. I love the balance of high key and shadow elements and then the colors of the buds just send this over the top!

There has been this huge movement toward "Ortonizing" images on the big boards and I'll bet this one would really sing with that artistic processing. Thanks for opening my eyes to another photographic possibility! :wavey:

Ha - I didn't know this process had a name until just recently (boy was I surprised). My process is pretty close to this, but not exactly the same.

Tim, it's just as well, errr I mean can you imagine everyone "Buchananizing" their prints!!

Again, great job on this one, you've got me eyeing a maple just outside my window......

Wow, really nice Tim! I've been seeing some of these around too - mostly maples, but none as eye-catching as this. As Wayne said, this type of processing has really taken-off, and with images like this, it's easy to see why. Thanks for posting!

Hi Tim B.,

I suspect that you photographed the flower buds of red maple. The limbs and bark look right and it is too early for leaves so you must have the flower buds about ready to pop open. That is my best guestimate without closer examination of the buds themselves.

Contrary to what Tim E. said, I mostly just took in the Baja sights and passed on getting too soused. The $1,200 bottle of brandy and the $8,600 bottle of tequilla was tempting at the LAX airport however...

Best, Don

Thanks, Don - makes sense. My mistake on thinking these things were leaves - I was able to examine them more closely later on.

$8,600 tequilla? Too bad they don't let you sample the expensive bottles before buying.
