Arthropods

Keywords: Crab Spider, Brown Crab Spider, Mother, Egg Sac

I found this Brown Crab Spider in some weeds I was clearing near the side of our property. She was guarding her egg sac. My understanding is the mother usually dies before the hatchlings emerge. This one was already missing her right front leg. I went back, got a shovel and transplanted the weed into a natural area on our property. I went back every day to photo the hatchlings. One day the mother was no longer there. Unfortunately I went on vacation and when I returned they had already hatched and dispersed.
