I took this image north of Espanola, New Mexico inthe very snowy February of 2007 . I was hiking with a photographer friend on public BLM land. We topped out on this hill and got a great view of these hidden buttes in front of the Truchas group of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. We did not get any alpenglow on the peaks at sunset, but we waited for about twenty minutes after sunrise to see if the sky might light up. It most certainly did light up. Which is a good tip: don't pack it up immediately after sunset as some of the best light actually happens in the half hour or so after sunset.
