An American alligator slinks around in a deep-but-narrow canal running parallel to Loop Road in the Big Cypress National Wildlife Refuge. At this time, Big Cypress was most dry. As a result, an enormous number of alligators had packed together along this stretch of still-standing water. It was quite a remarkable sight, a few hundred gators withing a few miles of canal.
