American alligator.
Alligator mississippiensis.

Loop Road; Big Cypress NWR, Florida.
Nikon D70s.

Florida's got a ton of alligators - but if you want to see more than a ton in a short period of time, just head on down to Big Cypress in south Florida. That place is just crawling in gators. Gators everywhere.

Here's one moderately sized adult, not too big, working its way to a strand of water along the side of the road. I added a little bit of blur to the edges of this shot to give it a little more smoothness. The stick in the top left is a little distracting, but not as bad after the blur adjustment. Not sure why. Just like it more.
