An Iron Horse stampedes directly at the camera in the form of a Durango and Silverton #486, a 1920's K-36 Mikado built by Baldwin Locomotive Works. At this location, I would normally work my way out to a point on the frozen river; but on this day I stayed near the tracks to capture the action through the famed Repeat Curves along the Animas River Gorge. I photographed two runs; this photo captured the scene with the winter starkness of the rock and brush and dark steam engine exhaust.
