Fall in 3-d

No exotic locale or spectacular scenery here, just some fallen leaves lazily floating on Mill Creek (Mill Creek Park, Youngstown, Oh.). I think the leaves on top of the reflection gives the image a 3-d look, hence the title. Opinions on this one, good and bad, are appreciated. Nikon F5, 24-85, velvia.

This is different, and very cool. The reflection is so perfect, these leaves look as if they are floating in air. The LRC is a small distraction, but not a big deal. This is just very cool.

Oh, I like this! In addition to being a really nice image, it's just nice to see some fall color again.

Scott,

This is very alluring. The leaves seem to be just floating. Very still water conditions.

Scott,

This is an incredible image - autumn or otherwise. As Chris mentioned, the reflection is so still that the leaves do look like they're floating in mid air. Excellent detail and sharpness of the leaves from top to bottom - makes me think you had used a t/s lens. I also think the amount of softness for the background is just right. A sharper background (more dof) might have caused merging problems with the leaves.

I love this Scott - I'm totally engrossed with this image.

I love images like this! Nice colour and great detail! My only suggestion would be a slight crop from the top to take out the branches coming out of the water...I just find them a little distracting. What draws me to this image is the simplicity, and the branches in the water take from that...a little crop and this is a winner in my books!

Yes, the background reflection makes them appear suspended in midair. I really like this; well executed.

I love images like this, where one image is 'overlaid' on another by the use of reflection. Very well seen and very creative. Great stuff!

Well done Scott for 'seeing' this. Great effect with the floating leaves and reflection. I like the colour palette. I agree with Lon on the aperature chosen just to make the BG a little soft.
Wondering if there is some funky stuff you could do with this on layer and blend it in...to bring the leaves out even more maybe soften the reflection a little? The sticking out branch i would prefer to be out the frame, its a small nite though. Wonderful anyway... I really like it.

Thanks for all the comments, everyone. Actually, I did not use an aperature that softened the background reflection while keeping the floating leaves sharp. The reflection was soft to begin with due to a very slow current and wind gusts, the latter causing the water to blur and the leaves to fall. I then used a lens opening wide enough to stop the very slow leaf movement but narrow enough to assure sharpness for the floating leaves foreground to background. I debated cropping to remove the brances, but ultimately left them for viewer orientation. I think cropping them out has merit.
