Recipe...

- Take one bag of seed.
- Find area with trees and shrubs for cover.
- Sprinkle seed on ground.
- Repeat the next few days, as birds find food site.
- Return, spreading a liberal cover of fallen leaves on top of the seed, making the seed invisible.
- Park car 15 feet away, and wait.
- Bring sugary snacks, the kind your wife won't let you eat at home.
- Kick back, and click shutter at appropriate time.

Amazing how easy it can be sometimes...

Nice.....I may have to try this. Sounds like I might be able to reel some nice birds in close enough for my 300mm lens.

Beautiful bird!!

Great recipe. Certainly an unusual presentation of a Cardinal. I like the environmental perspective.

Kyle...There should be a thread where people post their "staged" shots, and tell how they did it. I know there's one heck of a lot of them that get posted, although perhaps their secrets don't!!

Certainly something to try with a shorter lens. I fall in that category as well, as my 400 5.6L isn't as long as the 500mm most people seem to use here, and I can't use a tele-extender with it nearly as easily as you can with the 500mm, due to loss of auto focus.

Sweet shot, Terry. Good technique to bring them closer, since we both have same setup.

It certainly worked and yes, I am sure there are many that set their shots up. Well done Terry and thanks for the tips.

Nice clean shot, Terry. The only suggestion that I have would be to put the snacks at the top of the list. :toast:

I don't know if I like the recipe better than the picture or vice versa! But I really like the photo.

Terry, thanks for the recipe, if I double it, do I get two birds at once?

This is a lovely image of this cardinal, I love the color contrast between the brown leaves and the reds of the bird. I also love the cocky turn of the head!

Lovely shot of the cardinal. The reds look good. Nice lighting, pose and such a complementary background.

Nice image as posted.

Many thanks for the honesty in disclosing How You Did It. I've been advocating that here and elsewhere for years and this is a good example of helping educate everyone else.

You sure nailed that one, I wouldn't change a thing (except maybe for salty snacks).
