Would impressionist painters have thrown away their brushes if they had known of ND filters? I know I cant paint anyway...

EOS 5D, 24-105 f4L 0.9ND ISO 50 f16 for 1 sec.

Someone said recently of this picture they couldnt understand why the mid is sharp and the foreground soft considering the movement, well the wind was in gusts right along the front of the field where I was standing, then everything would be still. I pressed the shutter as a blast occured.

Well done, I like the combination of blurred and sharp flowers.

Neat motion effect. I like the gradient blue of the sky, and the placement of the two trees in the frame.

It will be a while before we see canola (rape) fields looking like that over here David. I can't wait

Instead of trying to fight the wind to get a sharp photo, you went the other way and got a great photo. That's what I call going with the flow! Canola used to be called rape seed, but ag marketing people decided it sounded much nicer to call it "canola oil". True story. Canola is typically grown in places that have a growing season too short for much else. You won't find it in Missouri, but will find it in North Dakota! Where you find one canola field there should be plenty of others nearby. It's only planted where there is an oil production facility nearby, from what I've seen. The flowers are very pretty.

David,

Congrat's on the editor's pick. And rightly so! That movement in the flowers sets the photo apart.

This is great! You really captured an element of nature (wind) beautifully. I've been working on similar interpretations. Hope you're enjoying it as much as I am.

It is not easy to get a decent rapeseed shot, this is really good. I`ve dabbled in long exposures myself, and am quite impressed, just the right balance of blur and sharp detail. The background trees are just right. Congrats to EP

David,
Very creative and I really enjoy the color, perspective and composition. Not sure I understand your title though...
