Henry Bridge in Fresh Snow

Very rarely do we get such perfect snow around here. Usually it is too dry or there is too much wind. I shot this local bridge 8 years ago, and haven't had equivalent conditions since. The magic of this morning occurred when when the sun began to break through the clouds bringing out nice shadows and showing the texture of the snow.

(P.S. This is a from a print version. The trunk on the right edge gets covered up by the mat.)

There's a classic winter feel to this image, but the diagonals of the trees and the creek add a little drama. Nice!

Very nice, John! I like the creek leading the viewer into the image and to the bridge.

I like the angle you took this shot from, with the trees leaning in front of the covered bridge and the bush in the foreground. But I think nicest little touch is the bit of snow on the red siding, gives it great texture.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

John, actually this is from a drum scan of a 35mm slide that I worked up for some print sales. My Nikon scan lost too much around the edges due to the slide cover. I didn't want to crop the drum scan because I didn't want to lose anything off the bottom to clean up the side.

I love the dark red contrast with the snow, which is contrasted with the water and trees. This is very pleasing to my eyes.

I bet this comes out well in print, John. I agree the red bridge is a good contrast and focal point of the image. A good use of the river as a leading lines.

Nice job.

Thanks guys. I just went back here recently after an ice storm and tried out some different angles. I can't wait to get the film back.

John,

Excellent composition--The V in the creek contrasting with the V's of the trees.

Great texture and great whites.

Thanks for sharing.
